On 19th May we will walk the Geographical boundaries of our Parish - the tradition of 'Beating the Bounds'. As early at the 7th Century the congregation, led by the priests, churchwardens and choir would walk the parish boundaries to bless and protect the land, celebrate the harvest, and also settle border disputes. You can find out more about the origins of this tradition HERE. After lockdown Mother Emma reinstated this tradition as a way of allowing the Morning Prayer congregation, who pray on Zoom, to meet in person.
This year we will meet at the West door of the church at 9.30 am and walk around the bounds of our parish, stopping to read 12 Collects (prayers) at significant landmarks on our borders such as Holland Park, the tube station and Kensington Palace. The walk is 3 miles long and should take an hour and a quarter to complete. Light refreshments will be provided. If you would like to read one of the Collects or have any questions about the prayer walk please contact Hilary who is arranging it HERE. |
