Thank you for coming to us at St Mary Abbots as you arrange a Funeral Service. You are very much in our thoughts and prayers at this time, and we would be glad to help in any way possible.
A Christian service offers us the opportunity to give thanks for a life created by God as we commend the person into His loving care, and comfort one another in grief. “God’s love and power extend over all creation. Every life, including our own, is precious to God. Christians have always believed that there is hope in death as in life, and that there is new life in Christ after death.” (Pastoral Introduction, Common Worship, Funeral Service, 2005)
The shape of the funeral service follows a traditional and time-honoured pattern as we commend someone into God’s safekeeping, but you are also encouraged to select hymns, readings and music to make it personal to the individual who has died, as well as including tributes from friends, family or others.
