Dear all
It was very inspiring to see a good number of you at the first Lent group yesterday evening, and we look forward to seeing any others who would like to join over the Wednesdays ahead. Many thanks to Fr Tim for co-ordinating the course, and to Hakan Sandal-Wilson, our LLM in Training, who will be leading next week’s session. The paintings and Bible passages we discuss give us a new perspective as we seek to “unpack” the question, “Who is our Neighbour?” A final reminder about the lecture by Fr Simon Cuff on “The Creed and Disagreement” at 4 pm on Saturday, followed by tea and cake. It is lovely to see that quite a few people have already signed up – if you are planning to come to this free event and are able to sign up HERE, it will ensure there is enough tea! If you feel able to donate some cake, please let Leonora know. This coming Sunday we continue with our Lenten reflections on the understanding of our neighbour, and at the 9.30 Eucharist and at Matins we shall be joined by Maryna, a Ukrainian refugee from our congregation, as we think about the ways in which local charities have worked with refugees and how we as a church, led initially by Fr Christopher and a team of volunteers, have engaged in welcoming those who have fled both Ukraine and Afghanistan in recent years. As with our speaker from the Upper Room last week, we are challenged to see the face of Christ in a wide variety of those in different kinds of need. Hakan will be preaching to us. If you might be interested in hearing about Artistic Houses, London's Pre-Raphaelite Interiors. Please do buy a ticket HERE for the Victorian Society talk on Monday 24th March. The proceeds are split between the Victorian Society and the church, so you will also be helping our mission and ministry whilst spending a fascinating time learning more about our local area. Finally, you will notice that the West Gates have been taken away and replaced with temporary mesh gates. This is the beginning of a project to restore the rusty and out-of-kilter church railings being carried out by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, who are responsible for the maintenance of areas of “closed burial ground”. We have been told that it may take a few months for the gates to be stripped back and restored to their original strength and beauty, but I am absolutely delighted that the project has begun, and would like to thank RBKC for their work on this. Watch this space! You can see images of the Railing restoration project - both the gates as they were before and pictures of them being removed on our website HERE. May God bless us, that in us may be found love and humility, obedience and thanksgiving, discipline, gentleness and peace. Amen [Common Worship Night Prayer in Lent] With my love and Lenten prayers Mother Emma 13th March 2025 |
